Robert Griffin III and 8 Daily Fantasy Football Sleepers to Target in Week 14
It’s GPP time again in daily fantasy football contests, as week 14 of the NFL season provides us with a glaring reminder that time is running out to strike it big in the NFL DFS scene.
This is one of just four remaining weeks in the 2016 NFL regular season, which means the big prize pools and chances to win will only decrease from here.
There is still time to win some fat cash, however, as no NFL teams have locked up their playoff seeds just yet and for the most part, everyone you’d want to use in NFL DFS contests is still at your disposal.
This week could be especially interesting, as a few injuries and interesting matchups could make some players look like very sneaky sleepers. Let’s take a look at the 8 guys we like the most over at DraftKings today:
Robert Griffin III, QB, Cleveland Browns ($5k)
RG3 returns to the field this weekend, after missing the last 13 weeks with a shoulder injury. Odds are it goes about as horribly as things did in week one (10 fantasy points), but it’s tough to ignore the upside in a “nothing to lose” situation.
Griffin knows he’s on his last NFL legs, so he could go into this game just taking shots all over the place. The same can be said for the Brown, who are 0-12 and understand this could be their best shot at getting their lone win of 2016.
On top of that, RG3 is the bare minimum at DraftKings and faces a Bengals pass defense that has been just a middle of the pack unit in 2016. RG3 can offer upside with his legs, too, so even if he has a bad game, he could still end up paying off.
Christine Michael, RB, Green Bay Packers ($3.3k)
We’re not enamored with Michael’s upside, as he only had nine carries last week and faces a very good Seattle run defense. Still, there is something about some true revenge that is always tough to pass up.
The Seahawks twice cut Michael now, and he finally gets an opportunity to show them what they gave away for free. He probably won’t crush, but for this price, he’s not the worst gamble to make in daily fantasy football this week.
Rex Burkhead, RB, Cincinnati Bengals ($3.5k)
Burkhead doesn’t sound like a safe option, but he’s taken over for the injured Giovani Bernard and has turned into a viable threat out of Cincinnati’s backfield. His role has increased over the past two games, where he’s seen at least seven total touches and racked up over 15 total fantasy points.
It’s unlikely Burkhead will be one of the top rushers on the week, but he could absolutely crack 10 fantasy points this week and costs almost nothing. It can’t hurt that he’s going up against the Browns, who rank 31st against running backs in 2016.
Isaiah Crowell, RB, Cleveland Browns ($3.9k)
Staying in that same game, we can’t forget about Crowell, who has had some nice games in 2016 and could benefit from the return of RG3. Crowell even bounced back last week (14 fantasy points) and could be in a decent spot against a Cincy run defense that ranks just 24th on the year against fantasy backs.
Crowell has maintained a solid role all year and put up a solid 15 fantasy points the last time RG3 took the field. Coincidence? Hopefully not.
Robby Anderson, WR, New York Jets ($3k)
Anderson has to be one of our favorite daily fantasy football sleepers of the week, as he’ll face a bad 49ers defense in week 14. On top of that, he broke out in week 13, garnering 12 targets and posting his best day (16 fantasy points).
Bryce Petty will be under center again, and the two have some solid chemistry together. With Anderson costing the bare minimum and the Niners ranking dead last against wide receivers, everything adds up to a big day for the Jets receiver.
Torrey Smith, WR, San Francisco 49ers ($3.5k)
That same game could also be kind to veteran deep threat, Torrey Smith. Smith has not enjoyed a big year and doesn’t seem to have amazing chemistry with Colin Kaepernick, but he still has speed that kills and will be facing a terrible Jets defense.
New York fell apart last week and is ranking just 24th against the wide receiver position this year. It could be time for a big game for Smith.
Tyler Lockett, WR, Seattle Seahawks ($3.7k)
The same could be said for Tyler Lockett, who will be facing the Packers in a huge NFC clash in Green Bay. Lockett’s role in Seattle’s passing attack isn’t overly consistent, but they involve him on the ground, through the air and on returns.
The matchup is where it’s at, as Lockett could easily end up destroying the Packers in any of those avenues. Lockett is always a threat on returns and even just busted a 75-yard touchdown run last week. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him take advantage of a Green Bay secondary that ranks 31st against wide receivers in 2016.
Taylor Gabriel, WR, Atlanta Falcons ($4.3k)
Last, but certainly not least, is Taylor Gabriel, who could be thrust into a massive role with Mohamed Sanu out and Julio Jones banged up. Gabriel is a major threat on screens ever week out, but his role could grow considerably in week 14.
The L.A. Rams aren’t the easiest of opponents, but Gabriel has serious speed and really only needs one long play to pay off in NFL DFS contests. He’s been on quite the roll, too, as he’s contributed 15 fantasy points in four of his last five outings.
