Donald Trump Elected President: Fallout of 2016 Presidential Election

The Donald has won. Donald Trump is the President-elect. Hillary Clinton lost. Donald Trump has become the 45th President of the United States.

Huge Shock

No matter how you say it or how many times you read it out loud, it still doesn’t quite sink in.

The guy that was best known for saying “you’re fired” on Celebrity Apprentice is going to be calling the shots in the U.S. while trying to Make America Great Again for the next four years.

It’s stunning, astonishing and a sorry sack full of adjectives that describe horror and intrigue, all rolled into one.

Trump vs. Clinton

Trump winning the 2016 Presidential Election was unprecedented. The odds were even against him. Even so, he prevailed for a number of reasons.

For one, America was for the most part done with the Obama Administration. The Democratic Party was not getting the job done for the past eight years and the nation spoke up and pointed it out with a massive vote for the “other guy”.

It’s true that Hillary Clinton was the more complete, better equipped candidate. She has the experience, demeanor and temperament of a United States President. What she didn’t have, however, was the nation’s trust.

An email scandal – right or wrong – sideswiped much of her campaign and two separate investigations very possibly doomed her before the final votes were placed.

Regardless of the how or why, this is where we are: Donald Trump will reign as President of the United States for the next four years.

Leaving the U.S.

Of course, there are going to be those who refuse to embrace Trump as the leader of the free world. Some might even leave the United States:

To those, we bid adieu.

It’s an arguable joke to up and leave the country just because the majority of the nation voted for one person over the other.

As celebrities, it’s a bit smug, as it waves one’s financial situation in other’s faces – they can afford to get out and we can’t.

It also suggests bailing on the country or jetting when times get tough.

America doesn’t need citizens like that.

In addition, stating your desire to bolt really just puts the focus on that individual. It’s less about whether Donald Trump is the right pick, and more about that person making a clear statement: the voters got it wrong and they know better.

Not All Bad

The silver lining, of course, is that Donald Trump taking over as President of the United States isn’t all bad.

Most of the negativity surrounding Trump has to do with his personality or the media-driven perception that he’s a racist and pervert. Those are opinions and largely unfounded.

On the bright side, Trump’s core message is actually positive. He wants to bring jobs back to the economy, lower taxes, build up our economy and strengthen our national security.

None of that sounds bad.

In fact, a lot of Trump’s proposed policies look good for the United States, if actually implemented and done so correctly.

The downside with Trump is pretty simple, and it’s three-fold: He’s been made out to be a monster by the media, he doesn’t look or feel like a President and a lot of the good he has to offer can oddly be seen as a negative.

Trump’s temperament combined with his vow to take down ISIS and outside threats scares people. A guy that is perceived as volatile initiating violence, severing alliance ties or starting any type of war is naturally going to rub some folks the wrong way.

However, if Trump’s plan works, he might not just make America “great” again, but he might make it stronger and safer, as well.

Trump’s outlook on immigration is one that concerns many. When he starts talking about building walls and refers to people as “they” and “them” or says refugees won’t be blindly accepted, a lot of the media jumped on him and labeled him a racist madman with no heart.

Who knows if that’s even half true, but Trump’s obvious desire with these policies isn’t to shun specific races, but to make America safer and to help build our economy back up.

That is what we will hope, of course.

Trump taking a stern stance against ISIS and outside threats to our country shouldn’t be looked at as a flaw in his character or decision-making, either. It’s weird to suggest it is.

Yes, if Trump makes tough military decisions in the fashion that he hands out pink slips on Celebrity Apprentice, then sure, we might have a problem. But his strong stance on protecting our nation isn’t a negative. It’s a positive.

Gambling Impact

Trump looks to be a positive for the gambling industry, too. This is a guy that has made a living on building up beautiful, successful casinos and he’s no stranger to the betting world.

It only would seem natural that Trump would be all for more casinos, as well as legalizing many forms of betting that maybe aren’t currently legal across the country.

It’s not set in stone what his stance will be, but Trump is all about economic growth and while some may see legalized betting as immoral, it would undoubtedly increase jobs and with regulations and taxes, it could also bring serious cash flow into states, as well as promote growth on a federal level.

Reason For Optimism

Donald Trump has been the new President, unofficially, for not even one full day yet. There is a lot of time to figure out if he’s a bad President-elect or if his policies will pan out.

There is no denying a lot of the negativity surrounding Trump. People have bought into what the media has sold and hey, maybe some of it is true. But it really is strange that a lot of the country seemed to ignore Hillary Clinton’s email and foundation corruption claims, yet are extremely quick to pounce on Trump.

Regardless of which side you are on, Donald Trump is here and he probably will be for the next four years. We don’t have to love it, endorse it or even embrace it, but we probably should at least respect it.

Mark Cuban, a loud and public opponent of Trump, may have said it best:

After all, despite what you may think of Trump, there still remains the distinct possibility he’s just what America needs. More than anything else, that might just come down to change.
