Bengal’s Adam Jones Arrested on Assault Charge

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones is in trouble with the law again. Jones was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly pushing a security guard and poking him in the eye. Hamilton County (OH) records indicate that Jones also refused to comply with law enforcement officers.

Jones faces several charges, including misdemeanor charges of assault, disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. He also faces a felony count of harassment with a bodily substance.

What Happened?

The 33 year old veteran was arrested at a hotel near the Bengals’ stadium in downtown Cincinnati and booked at around 12:30 in the morning. Jones’ bond was set at $37,500 at his court hearing early Tuesday morning and his public defender “vehemently” denied all of the charges. The attorney claimed that Jones has witnesses to counter the allegations against him.

Jones reportedly kicked and heat-butted an officer after refusing to enter the police vehicle. He also allegedly spit in the hand of a nurse as he was being booked into the local jail.

The Bengals said in a statement that they are aware of the incident and are trying to gather information before moving forward. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy also said that Jones’ arrest is being reviewed under the league’s personal conduct policy.

Jones’ History

Jones has faced plenty of legal issues since being drafted in the first round by the Tennessee Titans back in 2006. His most severe offense came in 2012 when he was forced to pay $11 million in damages to a pair of employees of a Las Vegas strip club that were injured in a 2007 shooting outside the club. The gunman claimed to have been working on Jones’ behalf after Jones and his friends were kicked out. A manager was paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the shooting, while a bouncer was wounded.

He was acquitted of assault charges in 2013 after a woman accused him of punching her in a night club. He also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2012 after he was arrested at a Cincinnati bar. He was also forced to pay a fine for making offensive comments to a police officer at a traffic stop.

2016 Season

Jones was named a captain by his Bengals teammates prior to the season for the first time in his career. He inked a three-year contract extension with Cincinnati worth $22 million prior to last season. He played in all 16 games for the Bengals in his 10^th pro season and recorded 54 tackles along with an interception.

For his career, the former West Virginia Mountaineer has complied 476 tackles, seven forced fumbles, seven fumble recoveries and 15 interceptions. Jones has also returned five punts for scores in his career, though four of those came over the course of his first two seasons with the Titans.
